I love how condescending my family is to me. They think themselves so much smarter simply by virtue of their age and they lord it over me like a bully on a playground. I've given up arguing (which was a goal that I mentioned here not too long ago) and, though I still get reeled in somewhat, I manage to stay uninvolved. Typical conversation

Ha! I knew someone would ask this! Well, ok, see, when most people (namely my daddy) talks of the "surplus" what he thinks (and told me) is that Clinton balanced the budget and we had all of this glorious money left over. Firstly, there was no surplus, at least not near the number expected, secondly, the budget was never "balanced", thirdly, we still had a defecit. Basically, a "surplus" means that when the gov made up the budget for that year, we didn't spend as much as we thought we would. However, the reality of it is like this
