Santana likes Azula, but honestly, is a little afraid of telling her she kind of fucked off the squad because Sue was being an asshole. Azula's impression of her is based on the fact that Sue was a badass, and Santana, obviously, recognizes that about Sue Sylvester. Everyone does. But the reason why she quit was personal-not only because of Sue's ruthless tactic to hurt Brittany, but MOSTLY because it was putting down Santana herself when she previously had squad captain in her pocket.

So as that links to Azula, she's like, "YEAH, never gonna say a word about it." The thing is, she likes Azula, but she thinks she's ... kind of focused on the physical military stuff, which is completely not Santana's basis for anything or being in control. There is a part of Santana that wants to impress Azula, but she isn't sure if she can, and then there's the part that isn't sure if she cares, since Azula does come off as kind of awkward in our most recent thread (which is so cute btw).
