Fairy Tales

Fairy Tales: too scarey for a three year old? Do they really inspire imagination? Which ones are appropriate?

Discuss.

I think it depends on the child. My best friends' granddaughter is three, nearly four, and she seems to be fine with every movie, book or story thrown her way... Whereas my cousin Stevie, who just turned 5, panics at things as scary as "the wizard of oz"

Stay away from Grimm's Fairy tales... lol

Huh. Interesting. I'm curious if some things are generational as well. As state before, the whole boat scene in Willy Wonka scares the crap out of me to this day. Not that that's a Fairy Tale but the idea's the same. I found a cute cookbook that takes Fairy Tale snippits and then has a recipe that stems from the story which looked like a cute way of introducing them as The Pirate is totally into cooking. Although, I may find her stuffed animals in her toy oven. Hm. More thinking.

I vote yes on things with happy endings, as long as you regularly point out that there are lots of *nice* witches ;-)
