A few things!

I'm not even going to promise to write here more anymore, but it is something of a goal. So here are some things I'm thinking about:

* Does movie tie-in marketing work for anyone anymore? Are you more likely to buy the Reese's Pieces with The Dark Knight on it? Personally, I can only use it as a much larger Expiration Date indicator. I will ( Read more... )

Well, obviously my LJ contribution has dwindled since getting a real job, so I'm not really going to shed a tear, but...

Having your own site on your own domain with your own backups is really the only way to go. It's the only way to keep all of your information in your own hands and then "lease" it to other social networks - all of which will eventually break your heart.

One day I'll build a single interface that will selectively post to every social network I'm on. But that's a lot of work, and I have a lot of Warcraft to play.

and to clarify:

By real job, I mean my current full-time gainful employment as opposed to temp-ing for the man - just sitting around on my duff getting paid to do nothing by my halfwit boss - during which time I posted nearly all of my LJ and Yelp entries.

Not taking away anything from you folks who dutifully still post no matter how busy you may be. I'm not that diligent.

I've just been using Facebook quite a bit more. The nicer thing is that it seems to reach a larger crowd than LJ in terms of keeping up with friends that I don't see enough, but it won't be able to replace the blogging.

Maybe follow perich over to WordPress?

I think I have mostly switched to Twitter. I guess I don't really have any profound things to say. I only joined LJ to read other folks' LJ's in the beginning anyway. I will miss the UI on LJ though, way better then Blogger.

Does this mean that the Titanic waterwings that I got for Christmas are a bad plan?

The one thing that I am more likely to buy if its marketing something is Bandaids. Why wear a plain bandaid when you can have Harry Potter catching the Snitch right on your finger?

Heading?  Who says we have to head anyplace?  Everyone reading this has lost their favorite dorm hall, their X-Files viewing parties, their non-pixellated gaming clans; did any of us move heaven and earth to acquire replacement bonding experiences immediately?  Or ever?  LJ would just be another casualty in the series.

Also it might encourage certain people (me for example) to correspond more often with letters/emails and less often with the textual equivalent of bulletin broadcasts.
