Least Favorite Icons #6 - The centered & head/shoulders composition is boring as it's so traditional. The high contrast of the her hair and neck (especially compared to #4) combined with the darkness of the edges is overpowering. #5 - There's just not enough happening, the picture itself doesn't say enough to leave it without either text or more context from the original photo. The crop would be good if there was more negative space above him. The lighting and contrast isn't handled as well as in the other icons.
Favorite Icon #4 - Technically speaking I think it's the best of the group. The light and contrast are perfect and the text is very well done. Not my favorite subject, but a nice icon.
Least Favorite Icons #4 - The half-visible text is rather distracting and gives the image the feel of a too close crop. #3 - The crop is good and the lightning seems perfectly balanced with the background, but Scully is too blurry.
Right as I hit enter I realised that I should have said more to my second least favourite...
add on to #3:
Going blurry to compensate for the blurry gun in the original image in itself is a brilliant idea, but a bit less would have been better as the contrast to the focus put on her with lighting is a bit too stark. It might have worked better if her face had been sharper as an additional focus point.
Least Favorite Icons 03 - The lights are too bright and not balanced enough with the shadows. It's distracting and her face looks awkward (lack of contrasts) 04 - The icon is too grey. It needs a bit more black in the shadows to have more depth.
Favorite Icon 02 - the black and white is very well balanced and the crop is interesting. The text fits perfectly the cap and is not distracting.
Least Favorite Icons ##08 - text overpowers the icon, the contrast makes it difficult to define the subject. ##05 - the icon is lacking a strong lighting point, leaving the icon without any true white points. He is also quite un-sharp.
Favorite Icon ##02- great composition of space & text
