Narcissa found the letter from Theodore Nott lying forgotten and slightly dusty, as if placed there in a hurry and long-since forgotten.
Theodore Nott? She remembered his family and knew he was one of Draco's friends. How odd that he would be writing to her and not Draco. She picked up the letter opener, broke the seal, and began to read.
Her eyes widened with dismay and growing horror as she read.
At last, Narcissa laid the letter down and flicked her wand. "Accio Daily Prophet!" she said in a faintly ragged voice.
A pile of them from various locations in the house zipped toward her, and Narcissa whipped through them all, seeking any news of Theodore Nott's arrest.
Slowly, she calmed as she found no word of the young man having been arrested.
At last, she went to her escritoire and began writing.
Dear Theodore,
I regret the unseemly delay in replying to your letter. I have been ill for the past month and was not aware that you had sent it. I hope I am not too late to assist you.
I hope you will allow me to express my condolences to you and your family. Perhaps if you could join me for tea sometime this week, I might be able to make reparations for such a late response.
