House tales

Yesterday and the day before I unexpectedly had off. Of course with the first day, my body decides to punish me by giving me a massive headache for first part of the day. No good deed and all that. But that faded finally and I was able to get laundry and cleaning done. General work stuff that needs to happen fairly regularly don't you know. Stuff ( Read more... )

Even in Kentucky, the instructions for growing mint were basically "Throw down the seeds and run like hell!" and NC is a couple of zones warmer than that, so you shouldn't have any problems on that front. Is spearmint a plant or a concoction? I've never seen seeds or suchlike for it, but generally speaking I like it way better than peppermint, which is on my personal no-fly list because it gives me heartburn. Weird, eh? But since this is your garden, not mine, I'm only asking out of general curiosity. Not to mention my thumbs are black as goth anyway.... ;-) I love that someone is posting here again. Woot!

Spearmint is apparently a type of mint I think. There's actually a crap load of different mint types, chocolate, some fruity ones ( pineapple I think), cat nip is in the mint family as well, I believe. And yeah it's pretty much the same planting technique here. I've got like, a bay window bump out in one room and it's got stuff growing below it, but not stuff I am all WOO about. Ok, the nightshade is hella cool......but even I don't need that much. No, my rule here is NO unitaskers. So, if I am going to plant something it's got to have dual purpose. It can be pretty but it's got to be edible, or defensive, or help get rid of specific bugs, or be useful as mulch. Like I told John, "I am NOT going to waste my time and energy and money trying to deal something that is *just* pretty. I dont' care HOW pretty it is, I dated that guy in college and I"ll be damned if I'll have the plant version around today."
