Elimination Diet: Challenging Foods

Jan 31, 2013 10:44

So, I made it through the 2 weeks of eliminating potential problem foods. Except for discovering I'd accidentally had soy several times in my TEA! Apparently a lot of herbal and flavored teas contain soy lecithin! Which means I've got to go a bit longer to eliminate soy ( Read more... )

Interesting about the corn! I would have thought "Meh, corn will be fine as there's next to nothing in it" but this is strange.

It's actually a fairly common sensitivity, from what I've read. Which is strange. But, yeah... I actually was like "Well, I'll do corn next since I doubt it will be a problem."

I mean, it could be a coincidence... but I don't want to feel like a bloaty ball of disgusting gas AGAIN! At least today is my recovery day.

Oh man, eliminating foods is always a challenge. I find that with my wheat sensitivities, I can still have some grains like kamut that contain gluten. My usual go-to's now are that and also spelt. Looove me some spelt. Also I discovered the same thing about soy! How crazy that its in a lot of teas, and frustrating when it's not made obvious. I buy from this one tea store that has allergen warnings on the packages and that is the only way I would've ever found out hahahaha. Good luck with your culinary adventures!!

Yeah, it's been challenging--especially because I don't eat meat or eggs or dairy for ethical reasons (well dairy is also for allergy reasons). So my food options have been fairly limited for the time being. But, I've been doing alright. I'm still not certain about gluten, so I'm holding off while I test other foods.

But man! WTF corn? All frakking day long I've been bloated and having foul gas and feelings gross gross gross. And, corn is one of the more difficult food stuffs to avoid--it's in everything. Especially when shopping the gluten-free products.

I might have to go to the health food store and mix my own herbal teas up.

I'll just be glad once I've challenged my current foods and I have a better idea of what I should avoid. Once I do this current round, I might try another round in a bit with nightshade vegetables (didn't want to do them with everything else, though, because I needed to be able to eat something!).

Could it possibly be from the beans? I know that I tend to have some digestive track issues when I have anything with a lot of beans.

Nah. I eat a lot of beans as a course of habit. Like... a lot of beans probably 3-4 times a week (sometimes more). As a long-term vegetarian and more recent vegan, beans are a staple food for me. So, the beans weren't out of the ordinary at all.
