Anyone who's weight lifted is familiar with the principle of rest being a necessary part of progress. Or rather, weight lifting every other day will net you faster progress than lifting every day because your muscles need the downtime. Hmm...

I think that's reasonable. I know I need rest periods about twice a day without any emotional stimulus or I start wigging out. And after each I'm a lot more relaxed and able to deal with problems.

Also, I know this applies to pretty much anything you have to learn or practice... I find if I take breaks from drawing when I come back my mind and hand will have absorbed some of what I was trying to do and it comes much easier.
