Ooh! Ooh! Pick me! (for a named dwarf)

I remember seeing this game awhile ago but not having time to get into it much, because the depth really is amazing. I may have to give it another go, though, particularly if you find that it stays fun -- it looked like it could easily turn into a micromanagement game.

I think it starts *out* as a micromanagement game.

I was inspired to attempt to play this again. I'm going through the fairly comprehensive tutorial that Penny Arcade pointed out once upon a time. I'm beginning to get frustrated by the inconsistencies of the user interface, though.

Agreed, the user interface is terrible. A couple things I've found useful:

The fan-made wiki has useful information and some nice tutorials.

Dwarf Therapist is an external program that interfaces with dwarf fortress while it's running and lets you look at dwarf job preferences and skills, and mass-assign them labors. Basically essential if you want to manage more than ~20 dwarves.

Ooh, thanks for the tutorial link -- that could be helpful. I too may be inspired by Brett's posts to give it another shot, and that tutorial will definitely be helpful...

I have huge respect for anyone who attempts this game, and I'm honored to have a dwarf named after me :)
