I have tried putting Isabel down more for naps, she sleeps for much shorter periods of time that way (20 minutes instead of 1½ hours). Then we have had disasterous bedtimes for the past three nights and now everyone is exhausted. It turns out that if they don't sleep well during the day, they have more trouble sleeping at night (grrr, counterintuitive), so now we are back to sleeping on me. :-(

I'm glad to hear that they naturally grow out of that. I was beginning to wonder how I was going to cope with a 30lb toddler sleeping on my chest!
