Competent supervision

I am trying a new drug for the first time today.  It's called Sinequan.  It's an antidepressant, and according to rxlist.com, scientists do not understand how or why it works, which is unsettling.  Anyway, the reason I am taking it is that it has an antihistamine effect on smooth muscle cells, meaning it blocks allergic reaction in the gut.

Yeah, I've heard that the side effects of TCAs can suck pretty hard. I guess that's why people latched on so quickly to the SSRIs and then the SNRIs, etc, etc. Great that it's worked on your hives, though (and super quickly!)!!!

Sounds like taking it at bedtime is a good idea. I'm sure your flight response would kick in if a fire were to occur in the middle of the night. Do you only have to take it once a day?

It's very common for scientists, etc. to not know why a psychoactive drug works, so, well, I'm not sure if that makes you feel better or worse :)

Really? I didn't know much about this drug before I took it. The warnings on the literature that came with it sounded ominous, but I never know how seriously to take them. All the antihistamines I have taken say they may induce drowsiness, but I've never experienced it before. Not like this, that's for sure!

Have you ever had a strong reaction to something like this?

You're right about the fire, I'm sure I could grab Isabel and get out of here in an instant without even thinking about it. I'd have to be in a coma to be unresponsive to an emergency with Isabel in it!

I'm not sure whether or not "don't know why this works" is reassuring. I guess the important part is the safety and the side effects, not the actual mechanism, right? Nope, not reassuring. ;-)

I am not at all surprised by the side effects that you are experiencing with this drug. Here's a link to the product monograph if you're interested http://www.pfizer.com/pfizer/download/uspi_sinequan.pdf... )

oh, gawd, girl! that is HORRID! what an awful state to be in, especially while you're "on the clock". i'm glad that the bell was able to give you the time you needed to get through that. how ironic that it actually works on the hives. maybe it makes them so sleepy that they don't do what they set out to do?

hang in there!
