Well, it's been about a month since we read this article about an apparent statistical link between autism and television watching in babies. What a blow that was! Giving up television is another unexpected sacrifice that I'm adapting to. I guess this is the hardest part so far. I need to be on top of my game all the time -- no taking time off or letting things slide. This morning I went outside to bring in the laundry, and Isabel pulled herself up on the screen of the sliding glass door to watch me (I don't let her out anymore because of all the mosquitoes). Foiling little fingers
Isabel is exhausting me. Now that she is crawling, she has become an explorer. She doesn't even notice her toys anymore except as obstacles on her way to new territory. Hmmm, only a week to go to my adventures in travel with baby to Canada. I should be busier, but the more tired I am the more daunting everyday tasks become. The Ugly Glass
This week I went to the Goodwill Outlet Store, thinking that there would be more toys there than at the little Goodwill shops around town. But instead of being full of awesome gently-used toys, the store was nasty! It's a big warehouse space with giant tables which are heaped with junk. We've had kind of a tough month. Isabel got sick in the second week of June, and had a chest cold for about two weeks. I, on the other hand, got sick two days after she did and was sick for almost four weeks. It's been tough going. Flash flood
Oh, did I get sick! Yesterday I was feeling gross so I lay down on my bed with Isabel. She was sleepy, too, so we both napped. I woke up first and realised I was very sick, so I jumped up and went to the bathroom to throw up, ewwwwww! Then I asked Erik if he could come home (he did). First mother's day
On Saturday, Erik and I were invited to a mother's day breakfast party with parents of other babies. We had met the couple who hosted the party through work -- Lori is a technical writer at NI, and I met her while she was still pregnant, just a few weeks before her daughter Olivia was born.
