Jammy!

We bought a larger freezer in the spring, got rid of the old one, thinking the new one would easily take everything from the garden. Er... maybe not. Here's what I ended up doing with 5lbs of raspberries and 1lb of blueberries this afternoon:

Home made raspberry jam - my favourite. So very scrummy.

I think raspberry jam is my favourite too (surprise surprise). Lovely in a Victoria sandwich cake.

Will probably make scones at the weekend when R is here.

I am so in awe of anyone who can actually make jam... *g* One day I will be brave enough to try it myself, though this will also probably involve having my own kitchen, and so be some time off yet...

Jam is fairly easy... the trickiest bit is deciding when it's at setting point. One of these days I'll treat myself to a sugar thermometer... after making jam for almost 40 years. LOL.

Congratulations!

It's been probably 30 years since I helped my mother make a batch of jam or jelly, but it was hard work to pick the berries, sort and clean them, cook and pack the product, etc., etc. The outcome was SO good, though.

You've certainly earned the enjoyment of those nine jars of homemade jam!

I suppose it is hard work, I'm certainly tired tonight, but then I've been doing a lot of other garden work too. Every year I forget how tiring it is keeping a fruit and veg garden going.

Mmm! That looks so good!
We've been having a nice blueberry and blackberry crop this year, but we seem to just have enough to eat it all fresh, and make a few pies.
Homemade jam is the best, and I still remember my mom's strawberry/rhubarb. I should really just try and make some.

Our blueberries and blackberries are also doing well. Our blueberries are smaller than US ones I think, or maybe its the variety, but they still taste very nice.

Strawberry and rhubarb is a nice combo. Marks and Spencers, here in the UK, do a strawberry and rhubarb tart that is heavenly.
