One of the things about being in management is seeing first hand the different management styles. I am surprised how many managers are of the 'react' and 'react to crisis' kind. If we did that as teachers, I think we would lose our minds. I can't imagine going into a semester without a syllabus, or, without a game plan. As it is, I am playing ( Read more... )

I think it's finally time to do what we've always said we'd do: sock puppets! Have them make a sock puppet of the person with the job they liked most that day. Also the game apples to apples or Twister. And pizza.

Seriously. It has to be sockpuppets. They all love crafts. Just get a pack of socks, some markers, and if you're feeling ambitious, some stick on stuff for eyes. They will love it. Also, maybe something with fingerprints? Fingerpainting/background checking?

This all sounds so exciting and productive, it seems a shame that the State Dept. will move you just as you are having a real impact. Of course, the drag act will probably work better in Amsterdam...
