I remember when the giver came out I was a library aide and got to be the first person in my school to read it.

that is a serious book to take in when you just started middle school. I felt totally, like, deep, man. it was a big departure from the redwall books and john grisham books and stuff that I had been reading.

Bridge to Terabithia (which I guess i've always accidentally pronounced "terra-birth-ee-uh") is the surest way to tear me up. Well that and "Where the Red Fern Grows". And on a note related to Chris's comment: Last night I read one of the redwall books and remembered why I loved the series. I mean, it's hard to still really enjoy a book you first enjoyed in 3rd grade. And reading the one book really wanted me to get more but I remembered that they're all in the Children's section of the library, and I would feel way too embarassed going into that section to check out a bunch of those books. So far I haven't been able to find it online either. Have fun with that class, Caitlin. It sounds fantastic!

DUde, I have read ALL of those. Any book requiring you to read Harry Potter is A-Okay.

Attn: Your reading list is crazy hilarious. I heartily approve and request that you send me copies of the critical articles you will presumably be reading. It will be awesome for my independent study with thedoctorlaurastevens on children's lit even if it is way way past our time period.
