Sadly after 12 years with this company (and just over 20 year’s experience), I have to look for employment elsewhere as it's been made apparent that I'll not be advancing here at this plant. They have chosen to advance 4 coworkers (cutting my pay in the meantime) who have neither done, nor know as much as I do, and only one has seniority over me. ( Read more... )

Do you think its because of the gay thing?

Or is it more likely that they know they can completely rely on you to do the right thing so they plan to leave you where you're at so they don't have to worry about finding someone who knows things better than you?

Another way of saying it: some people seem be almost "too good" at their jobs to the point where they never move up because its easier for their management to leave them there so that they never have to replace them.

I've had this issue with a couple of my team leads at the store, who like to put me in the same area all the time because I know it better than almost anybody else.

Maybe once you let it be known they're about to lose you, your bosses will suddenly realize "its time to wake up and give Ernie some of what's right for him".

Either way, I don't really have anything useful to contribute, except big hugs!

I actually addressed that issue. Management was flabbergasted that I would even think that was the reason... all the while NOT giving me a reason as to what the others have that I don't other than "they posses special qualities". WTF does that even mean???? If not knowing everything there is to know about a job is a "special quality" then I guess they do ( ... )

Damn so sorry to hear this Ernie. I can understand some of what you are saying with what goes on through our office as well.
Big hugs my friend, and I hope you find what you are looking for!!!

Sorry this happens elsewhere. I wish this were an isolated incident.

Thanks. I hope so too. :)

ugh, sorry you are dealing with this Ernie, life is too short to spend each day being somewhere you are unhappy and not respected. Good luck on finding a better place, definitely the labs loss when you leave.

I know, but I wish I didn't have 4 weeks vacation (and seniority, which matters EVERYWHERE else) to give up and have to start over..... and a house to consider selling in this market. ugh.

Thanks for the words. I feel the same on their loss.

Thanks for all this.

It is sad that they ALWAYS spout how much they hate "yes men", but yet that's all that ever gets anywhere.

I would so hate to move, but will for the right job and location. I'm so ready for an adventure. Going west for some reason feels like I should head out that way. Love the mountains and hiking and rock climbing and skiing and everything that I can't do here.

Your 3rd paragraph has hit a chord. It's so true!

But once I'm gone, I won't be missed. My systems are so thorough that anyone can follow them without me (yeah, I'm that good :).

Oh, but no I will not be available for consultation if needed. I don't play that game.

Thanks for the time you've given me. Words to live by, and they are greatly appreciated.
