Holy cow. Now there's a paragon of tact. I wonder if she wished later that she'd stopped asking questions that were none of her business after, "And who's this?"

Grrrrrr...

I know. She was pretty pushy, though, and I have a feeling she had no concept of how horrible that statement was in retrospect.

I've learned that sometimes, despite seeming callous, the best response to something is "Oh." (her, not you guys.)
Seriously this woman runs a kids' play group? I guess we should be thankful she doesn't work at a kids' hospital.

no kidding! Hell, I think I didn't even ask about it until she brought it up in conversation (I'd missed the initial explanation, as I went to have my baby at the same time she was able to meet with our little group again.) I certainly wouldn't dream of bringing up such a thing with a stranger unless it directly affected me, like I was the child's caregiver or something. (not saying I'd ignore it, either.. but seriously, it wouldn't be in my 'pleased to meet you' schpiel)

Oh my gawd. And I bet the kids' play group lady didn't have second thoughts about what she said. Makes you want to smack people up side the head.

yeah I've no doubt she had no qualms about what she said. She seemed generally clueless.

Sars of tomatonation would suggest you retort with an incredulous "Why would you say that to me?"

'Course, some people are too stupid to figure out why you've just asked them that.

I wish your friend E all the best with her beautiful baby girl. (I spent much of today in what we call "integration meetings" discussing the progress of our special needs kids; it's amazing [but at the same time kind of obvious!] how much a parents' positive attitude does for their kids' ability to cope with and their difficulties. I'm sure E will have enough drive and focus to help her little one make the most of her opportunities.)

oh yes she's really quite a positive person, and obviously loves her daughter. She is taking it all one stage at a time- there's no real idea of how her symptoms might change as she gets older.

I hope you update (when there's something to say) on that caregiver you've got for the two students in your class, btw! Talk about a cow.

Best of luck to them all :)

Something to say? Heh... Funny you should ask...
She's making an official complaint about me, and is refusing to speak to me unless it's in the presence of my head teacher.

Her complaint? Is about the way I spoke to her in those integration meetings that a head honcho from district office was at... when the aide walked out after the first meeting, the first thing head honcho said was "I cannot believe that woman; the way she spoke to AliVic was completely unacceptable. She should not be employed here." Her attitude towards me was worse in the second meeting.

So, yeah... Good luck with that complaint, lady. Still, it's upsetting :( I'll write it up soon
