Today I was scheduled to go in for a wisdom tooth extraction under general anesthesia. I prepared. I cooked a batch of split pea soup for my recovery days, and I made some lunch for the dude to have while I would be in the hospital. I fasted as directed. Probably biggest of all, I mentally prepared myself for the stress of being put under ( ( Read more... )

Wow, you have to get that done at a hospital? I can definitely understand the mental let down.

Don't worry too much about the pain as long as they give you some good meds to help! My memory of getting it done and recovery is all a blur. Then again, I was 14 so it was a long time ago!

yeah they do all wisdom teeth extractions in the hospital here, for whatever reason. Probably for the best, because our dentist office doesn't look quite as .. well-equipped as offices I've been in in other countries.

Fingers crossed I get decent pain meds!

I had my wisdom teeth out as an adult, with anesthesia, but not in a hospital. I don't remember anything terribly traumatic except a little pain when the meds would start to wear off.

Which was not traumatic, but a little uncomfortable.

yeah I'm hoping they give out some nice pain medication for after. I know it'll be some kind of Tylenol substance with codeine, but that could mean anywhere from a bare whisper of codeine, to actual pain relief levels. pillz

I was so sick after the GA I had for my back surgery that I'm just jittery and will be happy to have it all over with.

That is a pain! (no pun intended). But it does make sense that it could happen. I've had several ob/gyn appointments rescheduled, after I've been waiting for a while, because the doc had complications or things taking a while with some pregnant, in labor lady. Like you said, why blow up about it. I always rationalized that if something happened to me, I'd want the doctor dealing with me and not having to rush off to an appointment. This past spring, I had surgery scheduled around noon to remove my tonsils. Had everything all planned out about who would take me to the hospital, pick me up, pick the kids up from school, etc. Then our phone rings at 5 a.m. the day of the surgery, and it's a nurse asking me if I'm going to show up for my 7 a.m. surgery. They had rescheduled it and hadn't told me. I wasn't too pleased about that one. Once I got there, it took about 30 minutes for my blood pressure to go down to the acceptable range which was needed for them to start doing stuff to me. But I think they were only 15 minutes late ( ... )

oh my god! What a story! I'd be ridiculously annoyed if they did that to me.

I agree- I'd rather the doctor be thorough with her patients rather than feeling rushed into the next surgery. It just wasn't my luck to be earlier on the roster.
