OMG, SPARTACUS, OMG YOU ARE THE WORST. BY WHICH I MEAN BEST, OMG. I cannot think of ANYTHING I could really properly have asked for that that finale did not give. OMG.
I still haven't been able to write anything up on it, but it was so amazingly exactly what I wanted and did it all so right. Just such a perfect tragedy with some hope and I just. dissolve off into tears whenever I think of any of them. I feel so sorry for the people who dismiss this show because it felt so much like a freight train or something, where it started out inconsequential and sort of silly but the more I watched, the bigger and better and more amazing it got. I just loved all of them and this did them justice.
and shit, I'm just tearing up again thinking about the finale.
Did you read the Stephen DeKnight interview in the avclub? Yes, you called it--saving cash, writerly feelings of how they wanted characters to end up, thinking about their audience a bit. It was all good times.
I'm with you, time for a rewatch (though now there's tragic and complicated real life death in there that makes season 1 a bittersweet watch).
