I actually agree with your dad. Coldplay seem more alternative than rock to me. Then again, I require guitar riffs and at least a hint of sex, drugs, or violence to count something as rock.

See, they are alternative rock, but he was saying something to the degree of "anyone could play this stuff. A computer can play it." Again, my sister pointed out that a computer can make anything now days. I appreciate talented people who can actually play instruments and sing well. That's why I have little respect for rappers because most do neither.

I agree. Coldplay doesn't seem to be on cocaine.

Honestly, I think they rock as much as a fishing boat in an empty bath tub.

You can have your opinions, but I still say they're talented. They don't have to be drugged up to have talent. Their lyrics are lovely, not entirely witty, but soft and eerie at times, light hearted and human at others.

That's again, my own opinion. I don't listen to them when I want to rock out. Personally I prefer more soulful music that puts me in a daze, which they do every time. The songs are relaxing, stress relieving, actually. "Real rock n' roll" is good for when I'm feeling perky or more energetic, but those days are few and far between.
