Big Brother and all that jazz

I never was to keen on concerning myself with matters of the government until lately. Someone made the argument that we were but a stone's throw away from 1984. I'm not entirely sure about this because I haven't exactly read up on how closely the masses are monitored by their big brother. Can a select few be trusted to watch over the masses

you should really read 1984. the problem is that absolute power corrupts absolutely. a few people in charge would not work because they would become too corrupt to do their job properly. its human nature to make mistakes and you just have to deal with the guilt.
