so the shooting at virginia tech. i cried reading the newspapers at my college cafeteria. i usually eat alone. it isn't as easy for me to disassociate myself from news articles like this one. it seemed so absurd to me how the (very full) cafeteria where i was lunching was laughing and jovial. every day is the same really. sadness and

Yeah, there are most definitely some social/cultural issues at play here, but is it the news media's role to explicitly ask those questions? I'm not so sure if it is. While some reasonable connections might be made from his video, none of those connections are taken directly from him. He was barely coherent and obviously struck with some serious mental issues. How reasonable are the ideas of a mass murderer? Couldn't his arguments have been brought up more thoughtfully and less, violently

mass murder does ruin one's credibility. this is a big part of the point though. our social structure is a failure, and unless these issues are addressed we are going to continue to see more and more violence of this sort
