Sleep is bad for you...

According to Stephen Fry on tonight's QI, we only need around 5 hours sleep a night, and in fact, people who sleep for 8 hours a night or more die earlier. Or somesuch. At least, I think that's what he said. S'been a long day... and it's not over yet ( Read more... )

::hugs::

I run on a sleep deficit and make up a few hours by sleeping in one morning at the weekend. I routinely go to bed around 1.00 and get up about 6.45. It kills, especially when I have to break myself back into the routine, but it does allow me to get stuff done. But I MUST have those extra few hours on a Saturday or a Sunday or I become utterly impossible (instead of mildly implausible, I suppose.)

Oh, and my house is a tip. Let it go, if something has to give. It is way less important than you-time.

Hee1 The last time I had a full night's sleep was when I was 3or 4 months pregnant with my oldest kid (after that it was heartburn every night). And he's 30 now. I'm gonna life forever!

When my daughter was young and I was also working part to full time, I would go to bed too late in the attempt to get some me time. I cannot say that that was a success. After a while I got tired of being perpetually tired. I really need at least 7 hours of sleep a night to feel on top of everything.

I used to go to bed very late ( often as late as 2 in the morning) and get up at 7 ... and feel like a zombie for the rest of the day - so I wouldn't say that 5 hours of sleep is enough. So,IMO sleep is good, especially after I heard that a good night sleep (say 8 hours) makes you lose weight :D

Oh poo! I forgot that QI started again last night, and I missed it!! :(

5 hours sleep a night is about all I manage during term times. I end up getting up very early to get lessons planned and things sorted out because I can't do that at night (although before now I've been up until 2am marking assignments!).

I have no suggestions other than lots of vitamins to keep the body topped up against colds and 'flu which is what I kept getting before I started taking them. I take Barocca multi-vitamins every day in a fizzy drink. Seems to help.

*hugs*
