When does a ficlet become a fic? Is it down to length? Number of chapters? And when does a drabble become a ficlet? Is a 500-word story a drabble and a 501 word story a ficlet ( Read more... )

Technically, a drabble is 100 words. Not sure where the ficlet thing begins and ends.

A day off sounds lovely. I have a pile of new books waiting to be opened, but I'm getting down to some DIY stuff with taps and door handles before having another go at the next chapter of SS.

I'd always assumed 100. But then, aren't there 500 word ones too?

I really should be doing diy-type stuff, too, or at least the housework. But I'm not going to, so there.

Good luck with SS! It must be just about there by now.

BTW - did you get an envelope with some dodgy artwork in it in the post over the last couple of days?

I did - and posted about it (among other things) yesterday afternoon, but as you haven't been on line much I wouldn't have expected you to have seen the squee about the badge.

I 'see' your updates because I have an LJ alert set for a few close freinds.

I've done enough housework while MWNN was in Dublin to keep my conscience clear for the rest of the year.

I did squizz the FList a couple of times yesterday, but I managed to miss that.

LJ alerts sound like a jolly good idea. How do you do that, then?

Also - have you heard from the witch? She's been awful quiet of late.

I guess it comes down to personal definition... a 'true drabble' is 100 words... but some people call anything up to 1000 words a drabble... I personally tend to call anything I write that is over 100 words but not chaptered a ficlet...so I have some ficlets that are longer than some of my chaptered fics LOL.

Hee! That's pretty much how I do it - chapters = fics and one-offs = ficlets. But yes - I have the odd very lengthy ficlet. And then there's the standalone ficlets that turn into fics...

Drabbles should be exactly 100 words for me, too - that's part of the challenge.

I did manage to write more than I thought, which is strangely comforting.
Nods .
And you did manage wonderfully as you made me smile and cry and sigh and be happy, because your writing is a thing of beauty, always.

Enjoy your day off !

And what you wrote was wonderful!

Have a lovely day off pampering yourself.

Thanks, Kathy, what a lovely thing to say!

The pampering took a bit of a side-step. I decided to clean out the utility room instead. You know what's really sad? I actually quite enjoyed it...

I need to get out more :)

Thank you for the lovely stories from 2006 - and I can't wait to see where your muse takes you in 2007! *grins*

Enjoy your day off, hun! *hugs*

Stupid vampire. He's proving a bit slippery right now. I may have to sit on him to stop him escaping again.

Oh, now, there's an image I can enjoy for the rest of the day... :)

You're not the only one! LMAO

My version of the old vampire muse is being a particularly annoying beast (how odd for him!) and doing nothing but throwing poxy plot bunnies my way! But when I ask him to sit beside me when it gets down to the nitty gritty he suddenly disappears on an urgent errand (I have a sinking feeling he's being more than a little unfaithful here! LOL). Will come up with the obvious advice...chains! *grins* BFN

They are the very devil, these muses. Forever whispering ideas in your ear and then buggering off when actual work is needed. I don't know why we put up with them.

Chains... oh, yesssss...

Don't forget to write it down so we can all share :)
