A working mother's lot

It's World Book Day tomorrow. Now, it's a very worthy thing and I'm all in favour of encouraging kids to read more, and the book token is nice, but... BUT ( Read more... )

Huh. We are having the Book Fair this week, it was to coincide with the Science Fair last night. You know, so all the parents who showed up would be suckered into buying the $15.00 "Paula Deen" cookbook and the $17.00 pilates mat and tapes. *sighs*

I know the money goes towards our library buying new books, but man. My school will nickel and dime you to death with fundraisers. Luckily we avoid the dressing up bullets.

You have my sympathies.

And you have mine. It never stops - if it's not a sponsored this, it's bring-something-for-the-raffle that, or an appeal for school funds, or a Easter/Summer/Christmas fair, or contributions to school trips... I do love the school, but sometimes it just gets out of hand.

And books should be provided by the government for heaven's sake! Things that important shouldn't be down to fundraisers (but they so often are)

I always found the 'bring something for the raffle' was the best option - because I still buy up odd things in Boots sale after Christmas, and at least one 'After Christmas half-price goody bag' from Avon, which sit in a basket in the spare room so that they could be used as 'instant presents' for the 'Mum it's X's birthday tomorrow and I forgot,' moments, and also the 'Mum, I need something for the raffle' moments too!

You see, I'm just not that organised (and I know it doesn't take that much organisation really, but just getting through the day without all the juggling crashing down about my ears is all I can take!). I think I'll stock up in the post-Christmas sell-off but never seem to quite get round to it. I buy stuff to put away for the kid's birthdays, however, then either weaken and give it to them in a rare moment of 'aww... they're such good kids really...', or dicover it at the back of the wardrobe years later when they've outgrown it.

This year, March 1st so yay, just an eisteddfod to worry about, piece of cake?

Good luck, erm birds are dead easy

Hee! Poor old teachers! I'm impressed with you, too!

We've settled on Thing 1 and Alex Rider. It'll have to do.

Good luck with the eisteddfod!

Thanks, practice went okay so should be good, fingers crossed.
Music teacher taught the older kids to play a samba rhythm national anthem, amazing
so we listened to Welsh tunes on the net, my class made me smile, they can apparently clap along with anything
Hope costumes come together easily

Heee - my two were fairly easy because having two boys meant that an outfit was usually passdownable (what? It's a word!!).

I'm so glad they don't have to do that any more.... and don't even get me started on the fact that I made a whole Elizabethan outfit for boy #1 thinking I'd get mileage out of it for boy #2 only to find that by the time boy #2 got to that age they weren't doing Elizabethan dressing up in the curriculum any more... Argh!

I feel for you. Sadly, I have one of each, and the girl refused to wear the Victorian boy's outfit I made her brother last year. She's going to need a girl's version, because they are still covering it. Argh indeed.

*hugs* I remember when Mom insisted I get my driver's license so I could drive myself and my brother around, and then they made sure I had something to drive for the same reason (although the car was still Mom's, not mine). I hope you get a breather soon.

Thank you KC! Would you believe I had to buy my own chocolate?!

Me: No chocolate!
Him: But... you told me not to buy any...
Me: And you believed me?! How long have we been married?
Him (weakly): But... the diet...
Me: It's my BIRTHDAY!!!!

Humph.

Hope you and your new baby car are having fun!

Men!!! Don't they realise when we say no we mean yes.... that's the chocolate rules!!

I hope there was compensation in the way of spiffy pressies?

Baby car and I have done nearly 80 miles this week - I can't believe it! Petrol gauge has hardly moved though! *g*
