I could really feel the heaviness of the burden on Arthur's shoulders after his father's death, and Merlin's heartbreak as Arthur seems to push him away.
I love the way you set scenes - the musicians playing and children running around at Samhain, and the polished windows and floors before the coronation.
And the story's full of suspense - from the opening sentence, to the creaking open of Uther's door, to the "will they, won't they" of Arthur and Merlin.
I think my favourite line was during Arthur's drunk scene, when he tells Merlin: "you're the only steady thing right now. So you need to stay."
I just discovered this fic for the first time and absolutely adored it. It just hit all my buttons and made me feel all gooey inside about M/A. Thanks for posting. :)
