Well gosh, campers and counselors! Y'all know what they say about what brings the good ol' May flowers, right?

[SUDDENLY: it is pouring down rain without a single warning. And not just a drizzle or a light shower or anything - it's an absolute deluge. Good luck staying dry.]

[A very soggy marquis comes sloshing by]

--Ah, Admi-- Captain. Have you... you've been staying out in the open?

[cocks his head to the side and his mandibles twitch]

-You say that it can be 'summoned and dismissed at will.' Can you describe the hand held armament in more detail for me?

It is-- well, they are as close to gods as my world has any longer, so they are not particularly bound by practicality.

Mm, as I said -- it is twice as long as my arm, and perhaps three times as thick, mostly barrel with a stabilizing tail. It's is gold, and gives off heat and energy when activated.

[switches off his omnitool]

Well, this may be the shortest investigation of my career. Your weapon is in the possession of a human girl named Robin. I spoke with her the other day, and she said that she'd come across a new weapon. She showed it to me and I admonished her not to use it because it seemed suspicious. When I asked her how she came across it, she said that it was given to her by someone named Road Camelot.

[...face palm]

She lives in the room next door. I suppose I should have expected eventually she would go through my things. She has been up until now a respectful neighbor, however.

--at any rate, thank you for your help, Officer Garrus.

Just call me Garrus. There's hardly need for formalities here-and if there were it would be 'Officer Vakarian,' anyway.

But more importantly, what do you plan to do about Robin? I had some concerns that the object might have been affecting her mind.

It is not her mind I am worried about. Can you tell me -- what did she do, to show you the weapon? Did she have the tablet with her?

I don't recall seeing a tablet with her. She just 'summoned' the sidearm that you described. It wasn't like anything I'd ever seen before, which made me wary.

Mmn. No, that... isn't good.

[sigh]

I thought as such.

You needn't worry about her mind. The Gae Bolg... should have no effect on that, not directly. Least, I have not noticed any, and I have borne it for over half my life.

However it does-- in order for one to call upon it like that, they either must be using the tablet, or have formed a pact with it, bound it.

I don't like the sound of that.

It is not... entirely bad. As I said-- I have been in pact with it for many years. There are many from my world who are. When we bind a Remnant, we are granted use of its powers-- and not all of them are weapons. We need them, in order to survive.

In exchange, we offer them our own energies. The Gae Bolg and Ex Machina, for instance, take as payment some portion of my soul, whenever I make use of them. I expect miss Robin is in a similar situation.

So, long story short-if she uses it, it will slowly kill her. Am I getting it right?

Correct.

A weapon of mass destruction has bound itself to the life of a naive teenage girl. Well, that's not something you get to say every day.
