[Today, if you go into the Mess Hall for dinner, you will find that a rather startling change has occurred. The lights have been dimmed a little bit, jazz is playing softly, and the tables are now decorated with white tablecloths and vases with flowers. It happens every week, it should be routine by now for everyone. Tuesdays you have to fend for yourself -- which, given what this place does, is much safer anyway. Then you're guaranteed not to turn into an apple or suddenly go mute.

[there would be a pretty constant stream of thought going on about that event... mostly self-deprecating and anxious]

I don't really think it cares one way or the other. It's better to take matters in your own hands and control it where you can -- lessen the opportunities, right? I'm thinking the more self-sufficient you are, the better you'll be.

Don't get any ideas, I'm just looking out for myself and my wardrobe. You also said he "oozes" and I'm really not interested in experiencing that.
