That's some mighty fine advice! :)

Also, I've been looking into the ING accounts as well. I recently switched my account services with RBC, but I still can't help but get angry every time I think about being charged to take out MY OWN MONEY etc. Ugh.

Haha, thanks! :)

And yeah, my account costs $14.95 because it's the infinity account, so I have an unlimited number of transactions . . . but still, you want me to pay you for the privilege of being able to use MY money whenever I want? Fuck that shit, I'm over this.

Argh that sucks about the student account! I had accounts with ING when I was in Canada and they were awesome. This was before the checking account though. (I just had savings accounts with them.) Another one I had reasonably good experiences with was PC Financial.

Cool, thanks. That's good to hear. And I've seen the little booth for PC Financial in the grocery store, but I never thought to check them out. Pretty sure I'm gonna go with whoever can save me the most money, and it's hard to beat free! :p

PC Financial is definitely free too and also has great savings account rates! They also gave me a free cheque book!

PC might have better ATM coverage since they're a division of CIBC whereas for ING, you have to look for credit union ATMs.

One of my other friends recommended PC financial too, so I think I will definitely look into them as well. ING did offer a free checkbook too, haha. This is certainly a big selling point for me right now as I'm also running out of checks and did not feel like paying to order more from the bank. One more reason that it is clearly time to switch!

We've been with ING for like 10 years. They are legit! However, they were acquired by Scotiabank last year so technically it doesn't even exist anymore.

Cool, it's good to know that you've been happy with them. But, uh, interesting! I did not know that about them. The only mention of that I even saw on their website was in the FAQ section, where one of the FAQs was something like "What is the nature of ING's relationship with Scotiabank?" and I didn't really care, so I didn't read that FAQ, haha. Other than that, there's no (obvious) indication that they are owned by someone else now. Either way, if you've been with them for 10 years, that's a pretty solid endorsement. :)

Oh, it was! :)

Yeah, I have a bunch of friends in the States who use or have used BoA, but that's probably not an option for me here in Canada. ;) What's irritating is that I was with TD in the States (which is why I opened my accounts with TD up here when I got here), and I'm almost positive I never had to pay account fees down there. Stupid banks. :p

Looks like so much fun, thanks for sharing the pictures. :D Swings are awesome! :D

I don't have any advice about ING/banks since ours is a military bank, but just wanted to say that's so sucky about the fee. Wtf? I hope you find a bank you love!

Glad you liked them! :-)

And yeah it looks like I've got two really good options to check out, so it's pretty clear I will be saying goodbye to stupidly expensive banking very soon!
