I have to tell you guys about the craziness that was the Neil Gaiman book signing on Tuesday! First of all, the event was supposed to start at 6:30, so Erin and I agreed to meet up at 6. I took the TTC and it didn't take me as long to get there as I expected, but when I got there at 5:30, there was already a line halfway down the block to get in. I ( Read more... )

SO JEALOUS!!! It looks like it was an awesome event, even if you had to wait for half of your natural life. Great photos!

Thanks! It was definitely awesome, and I love that the celebrities I go all fangirl over are authors. :)

What a great guy to stay and sign for every last person. Not many authors would do that.

Yeah, he's pretty awesome!

And hi, who are you? I don't believe you've ever commented in my journal before.

Hi. If I recall correctly, I found your journal from a post you made in an expat group here on LJ and your words were interesting, so I added you. I'm a dual citizen who currently lives in Kansas.

Oh, okay. Hello then! Welcome. :) Are you a Canadian who moved to the States or an American who moved to Canada and then went back?

Awesome!!!!

Due to bookcrossing I have a few signed books too but I don't think I'd go to a book signing, I'd be too impatient and too annoyed with all the people, so good on you for doing that!!

Besides, your avatar is just too funny :D

Yeah, a lot of people left after the talk was over, or gave up and left sometime during the wait. They were selling pre-signed books in the lobby as well, so for someone who didn't care as much about getting to meet the author, that probably would have been the way to go. I think there are very few people I'd have the patience to stay and wait that long for, but Neil Gaiman is definitely one of my favorites.

Oh, haha, thanks!! :) That scene from Glee and her facial expression just always crack me up.

Hahah! Thats awesome that you got to meet him! *Minus the waiting* But the dedication that he'd be willing to stay till everyone had everything signed? Just says he's an awesome guy who appreciates everyone.

Now... to get me to meet Dave Matthews... Hmmmmm...

Yeah, I thought it was pretty amazing that he was totally willing to stay and sign everyone's stuff for hours upon hours and only took one short break the whole time. I really like authors (or other celebrities) who actually appreciate and value their fans.

Hopefully you'll get that opportunity some day!

Neil Gaiman came to speak at one of the other libraries nearby and it was a similar clusterfuck. He was supposed to speak at 1:00 pm, so my friends and I got to the library around 10:30 and lined up. We were like the 20th people in line by that point. We were able to get really nice seats, but then people who came in after us were allowed to sit in seats that had been previously marked reserved for press/board members/other such important people ( ... )

Oh god, that sounds like such a disaster! I can't believe they wouldn't have tried to be more organized about it. Just having people rush the stage like that must have been a nightmare to sort out. :-/ Did you actually get your stuff signed though?

Lol, I mentioned that I've been watching the show to the group of friends I was hanging out with yesterday and all three of them were instantly like "OMG YES IT IS SO GOOD" haha. So apparently lots of people really like it. Brad and I have 3 episodes left, so we might finish it today, but it's going to suck waiting till next year for season 2. And I put a hold on the book at the library, too, but there were a lot of people ahead of me, haha. :p
