i don't wanna stay young

Yes I was at that game last night, and it was honestly one of the single most painful baseball experiences of my whole life. They score three in the ninth to pad the lead, we score four in the bottom half to tie it up, obviously magic team will win another game in magic fashion and then: Buster. Face-down in the dirt ( Read more... )

Of course you'd be there :/ harleymae was too, actually, although she said she'd left by the time It happened.

Buster is on his stomach on the dirt, and he's not getting up.

Everyone sees it at the same time. A wave of silence slams down over the ballpark, breath caught up in however many thousands of throats are still here.

Can't imagine anyone who wasn't there can really know the feel of the moment, but you certainly seem to have captured it. After the seeing the highlight for the 12th time or so on mlbn, my eyes drifted to the background of the collision shot, and I swear one of the pitchers puts his hands to his face (all downright stricken) when Posey takes the hit. Sanchez? but then Sanchez didn't (couldn't?) even look at him as he was being helped through the dugout and back into the clubhouse.

I wish you guys all the best, I really do.

oh man, when people started flooding out of the park after the fish scored three in the ninth, i was calling them, "faithless! you're all faithless!" and then we tie it up and everything is so bright and hopeful, and then, as the reward for my immovable devotion: buster. face-down on the goddamn dirt. like, what good is faith supposed to do us in these circumstances.

head in hands, no doubt. honestly i think this team could have rallied to overcome a serious injury to anyone else on the roster, including tim, but because it was buster, our season ended on wednesday.

I'm late reading this but wanted to tell you that now I'm sitting here sniffling and blinking back tears. I was asleep here on the East Coast when it happened, but have watched the replay quite a few times and it was just so damn hard to see him in that condition. I can't even imagine how awful it was to see it happen before your eyes. :(

it was rough. i don't think i've ever seen a ballplayer in that kind of writhing gut-wrenching pain, much less a ballplayer that i am deeply infatuated with, and on whose shoulders rest the hope of the team. literally the worst thing that could have happened without anybody ending up dead.

but, anyway. thanks for reading! here's hoping for happy endings ahead.

BUSTER. D*:
I wasn't watching the game but as soon as I went online the next day I saw it, and cried forever. I can't imagine how horrifying it would have been to actually have seen it happen.
I love in this fic how they should have been drunk the first time, but they weren't. awww <3

dear darling buster. i want to send him candygrams and teddy bears! and he just kills me, won't let anybody talk about moving him to first base because 'i was born to be a catcher.' he was supposed to be the boy most beloved by god! what the hell happened!

ah, but thank you for reading. lots of angsty fic will surely lighten the blow.
