So. Serenity. I've seen it three times now. My short review is this: Oh. My. God.
However, I can't not ramble incoherently about this movie. So we here go. By the way, I'm writing and posting this before I read anyone else's thoughts. I'm definitely perusing my flist tomorrow and jumping into many a Serenity discussion.

Warning: major gushing and spoilers abound. )

I really, really need to watch the movie again...and again. How on earth will I make it through all of October to the premiere on Nov. 4?
There were so many things I loved about this movie, and there was never a dull moment.

I've just fallen in love with you again!!!!!
Seriously, girl, did you have a tape recorder with you? You remember SO many details, and it's amazing! I am in AWE. Seriously, awe.
And guess what? I say.... DITTO ON EVERYTHING. I'm not kidding! We are THE SAME PERSON. Kaylee was the only thing that felt off to me too!!! And of course, of course I loved the Simon/River. Overly romantic, hell yes! Absolutely beautiful. And then Mal/River? Aw! I lovelovelove it. I love how she pulls her knees to her chest all girlishly in the last scene ( ... )

Seriously, now. This is kind of freakish. And eee! River pulling her knees to her chest! I love it.
And muehehehe. I love that your obsession with icons is always clouding your judgement. *huggles you* Because oh, the pretty!
YES, we need to see this together. Why do all my online friends have to live so far away?! *pouts*
Oh, and yeah. My phone's been on the fritz lately. I'm getting a new battery today, though. Sorry I missed your calls! We'll definitely have to discuss Serenity for hours sometime this week. :D

And you are so right about Mal and Book. I think that, even after seeing it three times, I'm still in an "oh, my gosh! look at all the pretty pictures!" phase. Such in-depth analysis as yours will have to come later, after I've absorbed the shock.
But yes, I admit that I down-played the role of Book's death in Mal's change of character a bit, and I should correct myself. Obviously, seeing the destruction on Haven made something inside Mal snap. He finally realized that running was not the answer and never would be.
But...I think he still seemed to have an internal struggle going on. His "You think I care?" to the Operative was probably more directed at himself. He seemed to be thinking that it was so much easier back when he didn't care, but it's just too late for that now. To me, it was a culmination of events, and Book's death was decidedly the last straw.
Thanks again for commenting and for arguing your Mal/Book points. I always love good fandom discussions. :)

I do like your theory that the guy he shot is symbolic of his later relationship with River. After Book's death and his rediscovery of belief, Mal chooses not to leave the victim behind, shooting them to spare them future pain. He instead chooses to let them on the mule (or in River's case, Serenity) and fight for and with them. Very interesting and something that hadn't occurred to me.

Anyway, heee! I luff Nathan and Joss's commentary.
Nathan: You know, you're a smart guy. I don't care what people say.
Joss: Yeah, well....huh?
And I forgot to mention this earlier, but I love that I could immediately tell that you have a new FOB song as your layout lyrics. I was like, "Whoa, something's DIFFERENT." And yaaay! You have Simon/River and Mal in your sidebar now! :D

2. YES! Simon/River was sooo incestuous. I wrote of it too. I was rather amsued. Something tells me Joss knows how sick his fans are and put that in there for our enjoyment. hee! That would be so Joss.
3. Ack! I love the mentions of the Albatross. That Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem is one of my favorites ever. It's weird because I just re-read it like three weeks ago having no idea it would be included in the film. hee!
4. I knew going in that Wash would die but ohmygod. I was still shocked by the how and when. Brutal, Joss. Brutal. Zoe's reaction, more than the actual death, was what broke me. ME too! I wrote the same thing. It really didn't hit me till she said "He ain't comin'." omg, I just got chills as I wrote that.
5. Seriously, what was up with Kaylee? She was sooo off in the film. (I wrote about that too. Weird.) It was kinda distracting. Poor Jewel Staite is probably reeling from her reviews because I haven't read a positive one about her performance yet. Too bad. Cause she fit on the show ( ... )

Anyway, I agree that the albatross mentions were fabulous. I haven't read that poem in aaages, but it was still cool to see it pop up in the film. But I love me some Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Especially Kubla Khan.
I actually know a few people who loved Kaylee in the movie. So I guess it's just a matter of personal preference. But yeah, I do find it kind of sad, considering how perfect she was on the show.
And SAME HERE. I want to see it so many more times. I'll probably just go until I can't afford to anymore. Such an awesome, awesome movie.
