Perhaps not? I always saw in my mind a young girl with a traveling show guy, you know, like some dude who makes ceramics, and she is with him for a while, sees through his mask, and now she is leaving!

I have a tendency to think in terms of stories when listening to music, I just make them up and they may have nothing to do with the song. What was your take?

Well, someone I knew who had confessed to a brief stint as a Working Girl felt it was about a, well, Working Girl saying goodbye to her pimp. But maybe you can read anything into anything. Would have been a good one to slip past the censors in '67...
