Mother's Music has the best guitar tech in Western Canada if not all of. I can't remember the guy's name off hand, but I took a 60's Teisco Spectrum-2 (Japanese catalogue guitar) to him and he knew what it was and built me a custom pickguard that matched the original, dead-on, replaced the pots and switches with matching hardware and re-wired the whole job for $60 or so, completed on time, within the week. Great workmanship, too. Their guitar department is absolutely incredible, and they're definitely the people to take your repairs to.

due to some serious head butting with MM, unless the entire staff (predominantly management), like poisonous cells, have regenerated in the last seven years, i'm afraid i cannot enter the building. thanks for the suggestion though!

Well fair enough. It's a shame though, because their guitar shop really is quite good.

Is there an entertaining story behind all this or just rotten business in general? I've only ever dealt with the guitar shop there.

a few rental experiences gone really wrong - one with a 24 channel mixer they'd given us on which the master fader did not work. we rented it on a friday and took it to my home town at the time to record an album - the entire wknd was a bust because of several pieces of faulty gear - i couldn't charge the band because nothing worked and MM treated us horribly upon a request for a refund / extension. largely because i used to work there in '98 when i was immensely immature and missed work too many times due to being high on acid.. i have some personal grudges with the arrogance of the management. i understand they may have improved drastically, but i haven't been to the store in 7 years and will persist for 70 more. i have a lot of great friends that work at L&M that vouch for the continued assholedness of MM management in some of their cross-store dealings. most of it is just personal though and not terribly entertaining
