The City can be a very distressing place to live sometimes. Between the monster attacks and the acts of terrorism and the other unnatural disasters, sometimes I can't help but wonder how we even manage to survive it, or why we even bother to stay.

Oh dear, I've been so preoccupied between preparing costumes, evacuations, the events of the thirty-first, reversing the evacuations, and relocation that the project entirely slipped my mind!

I deeply apologize, Mrs. Maximoff, I'll make my best attempt at beginning work on it immediately!

Don't stress out over it, Kanaya. I was mostly kidding about the 'no excuses' part. We can take some time in class to work on the project.

[ she takes a few deep breaths and tries to calm down ]

Okay. Yes, very well. If...you're sure it's alright?

I hate to encroach on the lesson you had planned for this afternoon.

It's alright. I don't mind shifting things around. Being flexible is part of living in the City.

Nonetheless, I cannot apologize deeply enough for contributing to its necessity! I really should've been more attentive to the projects I was assigned in the interim.

It's really alright. Just focus on making this project fantastic and all will be forgiven.

If you're certain, then that I think is something I could effectively accomplish.

I've been studying moths more recently, I was considering perhaps attempting a sort of model resembling one.

That's a fantastic topic. Their wings are especially beautiful, I'd love to see how you incorporate that into your art.

Oh yes, that was what caught my eye initially.

Well, that and they remind me of my mother.

Your... mother? Really?

Well, she was a great deal larger, and the proportions differ somewhat, but yes. I suppose if there's one selection among human fauna that most resemble her, it would be moths.

Is that what you'll look like when you're an adult?

Oh, not at all! I except I may grow taller as I age, and my horns will lengthen, when they're actually present, at least, but I highly doubt I'll resemble her too closely.

But then, how is it that your mother is a moth?

It's something of a complicated process, at least when compared to human reproduction, though mother grubs like my own lusus were vital in it, as they would incubate the eggs fertilized by the slurry collected by the drones at the appointed time.

And then each wiggler who hatched from this brood, should they survive the gantlet of the caves, would be assigned a lusus by their position on the hemospectrum, who would help prepare them for the position they would eventually assume in our society off-world.

Being jadeblooded myself, my eventual purpose was to serve as caretaker to the mother grubs, and facilitate this process. To prepare me for that, one among their group abandoned her duties to raise me instead, and she is the one I refer to when I mentioned my mother, though clearly she was not indeed responsible for my birth due to the fact that she had not yet experienced the birthing process. And, of course, as we were later to learn, due to the fact that we twelve were in truth ectobiologically born in the Veil through paradox

Oh. Well. That sounds... really complicated. Cloning, you say?
