WHERE: a fancy, ritzy hotel in the nicer areas of the city!
WHEN: Saturday the 24th, 7:30pm and onwards
WARNINGS: stuff will probably happen.
SUMMARY: the much anticipated ball is finally here! see all the imPorts and various NPC guests wearing the snazziest of gowns and suits as they talk

[ kanaya entered quietly and did her best not to make a fuss. she'd put some work into her dress, but she hardly thought it was anything special. she just needed a break this evening, so she stood against the wall and watched everyone dance.

she wouldn't mind doing so herself, but she came alone tonight, so she thought she should feel out the scene before trying to interact with it too heavily. it sounded like a good excuse in her head, at least. ]

[Tavros is wearing...his good school clothes and a blazer. He is also wearing the correct amount of self-conscious awkwardness to pair with attending a formal event in khakis, which is to say all of the awkwardness.

He gives her a little wave, but isn't about to come over or anything, due to previously stated self-conscious awkwardness.]

[He gives her a hopeful smile, and shrugs.]

It's, uh, a little fancier, I guess, than I realized it would be. You look, uh, perfect, though, and most people, I think, are having a good time.

[ she takes a glance around herself. which is about all she's been doing so far tonight. ]

They do, yes. The atmosphere seems a little different when compared to prom however, the music especially.

Oh, but you won't have remembered that, my apologies.

[Tavros has had some hors d'oeurves and punch. BETWEEN THEM THEY ARE CERTAINLY BRINGING THIS BALL TO ITS KNEES.]

Nope. Uh, what's prom?

Oh, it's like this, only with a far less formal atmosphere. Which isn't to say the atmosphere isn't at all formal, as it certainly is, I only mean in relation to this one.

The school hosts it, I believe it may be a sort of celebration marking the end of classes for the summer break, but as I wasn't attending those classes at the time I was only able to glean this much secondhand!

[Tavros takes a moment to give this news the full weight and thought that it deserves, and comes to an important conclusion.]

Kanaya, I am going to need fancier pants.

[ she regards his outfit with a frown, her brows furrowing with consternation at the sight of it ]

Oh. Uh, also, to shift the conversation away from basic truths, that everyone can see and acknowledge, I saw Eridan here... just so, you know. You know.

[ she casts a chilly glance sidelong to where the subject of their conversation stands ]

Yes, it is a fact that I have seen already, but have no intention of acknowledging.

Oh, okay, that's, uh, probably good. He says his, uh...someone, I think you know who, that I, um, don't want to talk about, isn't here.

[Tavros's face falls, and he won't look up from the tablecloth. It's hard, being a kid and having friends and having those friends turn into complete murderous psychos. It's hard and no one understands.]

Uhhh, Terezi is doing better?

Yes, the noted lack of terror in the room betrays his absence.

[ sipping some punch, looking a little bitter ]

When last I looked in on her, her condition was quickly improving. I suspect she may be allowed to return home with us soon.

[Tavros steals a quick glance up at her, and then returns to talking to the tablecloth.]

Yeah, she's really strong, and, uh, Feferi's lifey thing, was really good. ...I don't know if this ball, is a thing she would have liked, but maybe she'll like hearing about it.

[ she raises her glass and its swirls the red liquid inside a bit ]

She certainly would've enjoyed the punch. And perhaps the swaddled oinkbeasts, though I'm uncertain why the hors d'oeuvres are given such a baffling designation.

Yeah, uh, making sense is not a thing human naming conventions are good at.

[He'd stayed away from the pigs in a blanket, and all the other nibbly foods that had meat in them, but maybe he could put some in his pockets for Terezi...]

Also, on the topic of weird human things, and also things that, uh, you will know more about than me, I'm not sure I understand why the ladies are all so fancy, but the men are all wearing, basically, the same thing? I think what I'm wearing wouldn't be so bad, maybe, if, uh, the men were not all wearing black!
