Bucky fell off the train - and Steve?

Steve jumped right after him.

I am a complete sucker for happy endings, but I can see this one not being able to end that way. So make it sweet and fluffy or make it sad and depressing; I am very okay with getting my heart ripped out. I would just love to see this scenario explored.

And that's not even what the OP said, they said they loved happy endings but could see that that COULDN'T HAPPEN here.

Don't apologize for making it bleak, this was incredible. I love how Bucky knows he's never able to keep Steve out of trouble no matter how hard he tries, and totally loved the simple 'Steve is an idiot', because dear lord, so true.

And the banter, oh god, even as they're about to die. *sniffles* And Steve being Steve and Bucky's stinging eyes and bracing for impact and just yes, this was fucking perfect, thank you so much. ♥ ♥ ♥

Yay, the OP likes it! I find prompt fills kind of nerve-wracking because no matter how much other people like it, it feels like I haven't done it properly unless the OP approves (but that's just my own little mental block). Thank you for commenting and for the great prompt. Oh Bucky. Oh, Steve.
