I cut the recipe in half & made it last night. Instead of a double boiler I just melted the butter & chocolate over very low heat. I used heavy cream instead of half-and-half, and it didn't affect the texture or flavor. It turned out perfectly! I had some gluten-free friends over for dinner, so I made a shortbread-style pie crust with GF Bisquick, which was OK but not amazing. As I sit here it occurs to me that a coconut crust of some kind might be delicious with this. The pie is very rich, so small slices are sufficient, i.e. a half recipe could probably serve 10 - 12 people if you cut it carefully.
