This is something I've been putting off writing about, myself--a years-long settling into becoming "functionally agnostic" or something, if only in my own head. Which comes after what was maybe a final SPIKE of religious buy-in around age 29-30. Now a very closeted agnostic if I'm honest. Closeted because (of course) if you are areligious then, according to my family and all evangelicals, you will spend eternity in the infinite torture dimension. Also, just...yikes. The discomfort of even typing that many words counter to my family culture is very real. Hard topic to sort out. But I do at least continue to only semi-ironically consume Christian pop culture. Currently reading a kidz thriller series by the creator of "Magee & Me" that is top notch.

It is very uncomfortable to sort through. My mom does think I'm going to hell but I think secretly wonders/hopes I might get a golden ticket to Heaven or sneak in through the side door. 😎 My parents don't have very many non-Christian friends so I think my existence as a Good Person is baffling to her and shakes up her beliefs a bit!

What's the kidz thriller series??? NICK IS NOT A CHRISTIAN ANYMORE EITHER. 😮

It's "Forbidden Doors" by Bill Myers. Each installment deals with a different aspect of SPIRITUAL WARFARE: ouija boards (it immediately freaks out and spells DEATH the instant the Christian kid walks in), reincarnation (Christian girl is deceived into thinking she was Louis XVI and goes insane), spells, UFOs, etc. The kids are constantly at odds with a gang of tween satanists, but their father, presumed eaten by cannibals on a missionary trip, provides spiritual guidance anonymously via chat room. There are like 12 of these books and I'm so glad.
