You're my HERO!
I am not a prick!
It's not because I dare to, its because I have a right to dammit! I was born with the ability to be verbose, abuse grammar (particularly commas and apostraphes), and use long words incorrectly, in covoluted sentences that meander about and often stray from the original topic at hand to convey obscure points tangental to the original just for the sake of a cheap laugh or an attempt at irony just so that I look cool cos chicks dig it..... ummmm..... oh yeah, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna let some stinky philosphising hippy tell me any different!
I personally think it is a combination of factors - the medium can not communicate the nuances of conversation as they would be conveyed in a conversation, and the HERO that invokes should be aware of this and modify their attempt at communication to allow for this.
The HERO that responds is generally unaware of the nuances of conversation which the original HERO was attempting (dismally) to communicate.
HEROs and oblivioncaptain_schmoozOctober 31 2005, 05:49:17 UTC
So you're saying that its everybody's fault? Including LJ?
You don't think that there may be some HEROs that are more predisposed to a HEROic response than others?
What about if the invoker was not intending to be HEROic but the responder interpreted it poorly and felt compelled to be a HERO - would that justify a HEROic response from the instigator?

as said - combination of factors. put simply, no form of communication via the internet (with the exception of instant messaging, which i will come to in a moment) can provide the depth of communication when two people (especially friends) meet and have a decent discussion. Whilst the internet can convey the words that would transpire in the course of a conversation, the nuances, the personal gestures which embellish certain words and phrases, the wit and humour, escape it - and these are the very subtleties which make the English language a pleasure to speak, especially when discoursing with one as eloquent as yourself
( ... )
It's very difficult to speak to someone you don't know well, or at all using only LJ. You don't know there personality, you cannot see the expression on their face, you are basically flying by the seat of your pants. It's easy with people you know IRL, you now can communicate in yet another form.
No one person is at fault really, its just a hazard of internet communication and yes the forum of LJ. In a strange attempt to add emotion to posts the *_* has come about. I know this is not solely from LJ (I'm no fool!) Sometimes it can be handy if you are being cheeky. *sly grin*
Adzo I adore you and you ranty ways :)Your HERO theory has basis but its a matter of "testing the water" as such to sus out how someone will react to flippancy, encouragement, taunting, affection etc.
loves to you darl, my brain is mush and it needs to sleep.
