There's just something about that story that makes me cry every time I read it. (In a good way! :))

Words are clumsy words
In the hands of another.
In yours? Poetry.

Oh Cara, I well remember this story, and it just tears at my heart with its beauty and longing.

Thank you so very much, you really *are* too kind! It's always difficult to tell for a writer if the feelings in a story come across, and it's just wonderful to know that they did. :) *thank you!*

My god, the timing...!
Hmm, there are no proper comments for this story - only songs perhaps...

I remember I was listening to Sarah McLachlan's Fumbling Towards Ecstasy when I wrote this. But if any songs come to mind, do tell me. :)

(I'll reply to your email as soon as work lets up a bit - more to talk about!)

Oh you inspired me to get that album! Some of the songs on there are on their way right now to one of my friends, too.
Hmm, Bijou comes to mind, and Another World too, because of questioning various modes of "journeying" by the Path, by other paths and by death and stuff...

"No one passes where the Stewards of old sleep their long slumber that must not be disturbed," the older boomed at him.
"And a good day to you, sirs."

*chuckles* (I find new things each time).
Always a Mr Cranky or two in the way. So properly mannered, our Sam.

I read this story years ago and have loved it ever since. It's my second favorite fic of yours. You have this wonderfully lyrical way of writing that seems so effortless. Also, I love how you write Elanor.

Thank you for leaving a comment! You know, back when I first wrote and posted this story, I was quite convinced that it wouldn't stay in anyone's mind (except perhaps for being weird and difficult to make sense of), so it's really very exciting to me to know that you do remember it.

And I'm glad you liked my portrayal of Elanor! I've always felt nervous (and still do) about writing the characters who are so important in Sam's life but who play only very minor roles in LotR (like Elanor - and Rosie, too).

As for effortless - that's a lovely compliment, thank you! More often than not, the writing process is one effort after the next for me, but I'm glad you feel that the result doesn't give that impression. :)

Finally... if this is your second favourite, what's your favourite story? Of course you don't have tell me, you just piqued my curiosity. :) Thanks again!

You're very welcome. (I'm trying to be less lurky...) I think this story gives a very poetic impression, which I love about it. So anything like that is going to stay with me.

My favorite story is Spirit. I think of it along the same vein as this one. Very poetic, haunting. Not the easiest story to understand, you really have to sit down with it and take your time, but that's the type of story I adore, so it's not a bad thing at all. :)

Thank you so much, mews! I do feel that it's their longing for each other, more than anything else, that made it possible for Sam and Frodo to be reunited in the West.

Anyway, I'm very glad this story speaks to you - the second half will follow shortly. :)
