The last book I read was Parasite by Mira Grant, and right now I'm reading Sparrow Hill Road by Seanan McGuire.

In general I usually recommend anything by Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant (they're the same person). Also I often recommend War for the Oaks by Emma Bull, which is still one of my most favorite urban fantasy novels ever and one of the few books I've read several times.

If I hosted a book club, I'd serve cupcakes or maybe cookies or both and tea. I love tea!

I love Mira Grant's Newsflesh trilogy, but haven't read anything else of hers.

I loved the Newsflesh trilogy.
Did you hear that there is going to be another book in that world. Different Characters and it will show the democratic side of the presidential race.

I didn't! That's so exciting!

Are there other Mira Grant books outside of that world, or does she mostly write as Seanan McGuire for the other books?

I wasn't impressed with the Maze Runner either... just not my cup of tea.

Personally I say if you're not enjoying the book by page 75, just leave and move on. It's not worth the time

I say Game Of Thrones counts, defintely. I read the first two books years ago and when the show started I decided not to read the books because I wanted to enjoy the show. I never, ever enjoy a film/show if I have read the book first but I almost always enjoy the book better if I have seen the film first...

What are your favorite childhood books that you're holding on to? (Besides HP, I guess!)

What was the last book you read?

I'm re-reading a lot of things this year, so the last two books I finished (and I finished them at about the same time) were Radio On by Sarah Vowell and Red Dragon by Thomas Harris. Radio On was Sarah Vowell's first book... It's about a year in the mid-90s where she listened to the radio almost constantly and took notes on it. It was a year when a lot of particularly interesting things happened, and during a time when I was listening to the radio almost constantly too. I like the book for the nostalgia of it. It makes me miss a time when listening to radio was something I really wanted to do a lot of... and because it was a year after Kurt Cobain's death, and Sarah Vowell is a big Nirvana fan, it makes me want to listen to all of my old Nirvana records too. And I've started watching Hannibal this year (though I'm not caught up), so I've been wanting to re-read that whole series of books again.

Of your favourite books, which one do you like to recommend to people?I almost always recommend either the ( ... )

I read To Say Nothing Of The Dog a couple of years ago for my Readers Advisory class in order to read outside my comfort zone and I have to say, I enjoyed the mystery aspect of it... but ug could not stand the time travel.

The time travel is what I love about it. :P

Heh, I used to own all of Stephen Kings books too. I think it is a teenage rite of passgae to read his stuff. Although I haven't been able to read anything new of his for years and years.

What was the last book you read?
I just finished The Princes of Ireland by Edward Rutherfurd

Of your favourite books, which one do you like to recommend to people?
I like to Readers Advisory interviews and then go from there because what I like to read isn't necessarily what someone else will like and so if they like a favorite book of mine or I think they might, great! But I know there are people out there who won't so I tend not to try to force books upon people.
Of course there are books that I try to push ;)
Without You by Anthony Rapp
Magic Hour by Kristin Hannah
The Violets of March and The Bungalow by Sarah Jio
Broadway Nights by Seth Rudetsky
Stiff by Mary Roach
The Expected One by Kathleen McGowan
Bridge of Scarlet Leaves by Kristina McMorris
A Long Fatal Love Chase by Louisa May Alcott
The Inheritance by Louisa May Alcott
The Circus Fire by Stewert O'Nan

Which ones do you NOT like to recommend to people?I refuse to recommend popular books because 90% of them, I think are over rated (coughthefaultinourstarscough). Not to ( ... )

Stiff, and really anything by Mary Roach, is a book a recommend a lot too.

wagrobanite June 14 2014, 21:13:24 UTC
Well true, but it's not that popular. Especially her other books. Gulp has actually gotten more press than Stiff did.

I wasn't saying anything about how popular or not popular her or any of her books are. I was just saying, you know, YAY I like that book too.
