My parents are in town, so I can't guarantee I can get away, but I might be able to mid afternoon for a cup of coffee, or something, since I'm taking the day off work. Just sayin'

Caitlin, WELCOME! I am letting you know up front that I will be be worst "journaler" ever. Just so you are warned. I do think that it is ludicrous that we have not gotten together yet. Really, I am only 1.5 hrs away, and I do not even have to drive. I do not get to the city nearly enough, but I am trying to be better. This country living is killing me. I will shot you an email if I am coming on Wednesday. But if not Wed. it will be some time next week. But I am coming to the city, damn-it. And you are on my list ;)

Yeah for you and 2 weeks off!! You really deserve it, I know you've been working so hard. I've got to get to the post office or some sort of mailbox store to get some goodies in the mail. So you're not really making any trip out of town for your time off? With the exception of the trip to friends where you're bringing the meal?
You know I'm happy to talk couches with you anytime...

Erika, we do not really have any plans to leave town. After the Paris trip, we are staying close to home. Last year we went to a B&B in the Berkshires for a weekend. We looked into heading to VT for a weekend, but we have a trip for a baby shower in Austin (01/06), so we figured we would chill. Honestly, this is my first real time off since I was in grad school. Don't get me wrong, Paris was incredible, but I am looking forward to this time to just be close to home with minimal running around. So the schedule as it stands includes one trip to Albany on 12/26 to hang with Todd's brother and that side of the family, then Schenectady on 01/01 for Todd's step dad's birthday. He is king for the day and literally wears a crown for the whole day, such a fruitcake. Anything else is just gravy ( ... )

I haven't had that kind of time off in forever, maybe a day here and there, but whenever I've taken off, it's because we're going somewhere. Like next week, we get the whole week off and we'll be away the entire time. Enjoy the vacation!
The thing about buying a house (not that I know since we haven't yet) is that you can get sucked into buying tons of stuff for it once you move it and sometimes it's not so wise from a financial perspective. So you may find it better to buy now, pick something that you know will work in other kinds of space besides fitting in the apartment. The basic style you want sounds a lot like my sofas, which we're very happy with and have also received compliments on them about their look and their comfort. Color is the hardest part though. I was attracted to a certain "look" just like you're wanting, but then the committment to the color is tough.

Ooh, I'm a bit jealous of the time off. Just two more days to go until I get some time off myself though. I can do it, I can do it.

Yahoo for TWO weeks off! You definitely deserve it! I took the rest of the week of this week, so I have today through Sunday off. I am sooo happy just to lounge around the house in my PJ's and watch Days Of Our Lives (my guilty pleasure- yes I TiVo it every day!)

Did you end up going to NYC? I wish I lived close to a big city! I mean we are outside of Providence, Rhode Island but it really isn't a cultural mecca. I do love Boston though for it's Museums and places to visit. That's a longer drive though.
