I decided to try practicing typing with my new nails, and so far, so good! I have this terrible habit of biting my nails ALL THE WAY down as far as they can possibly go, and it's really gross if you think about it...all the dirt and bacteria... anyways, my mom offered to pay to get my nails done so that I can kick the habit, not to mention so they ( Read more... )

You can find anything you need or want by recycling, and the summertime hunt at garage sales is definitely half the fun, because, yes, it is exactly like a treasure hunt. Retail needs to die!!!

Carter's first b-day party was awesome!

Carter may seem like a puppy dog. But, he is also just a little person learning everything about his environment, and also very intelligent, so he already knows how to get your and Matt's attention. The biggest trick is to be strategic, give him attention when he is not begging for it, and be noncommital when he does by doing stuff you know he already knows he should not do. The trick is that you don't teach him to get into trouble to get attention because he gets more attention when he is being "good".

Carter is beautiful, intelligent, and right on track, mostly because of you and Matt. Stay patient and smarter than a baby!

I think I'm pretty good about giving him attention, but sometimes he wants nothing to do with me and wants to explore above anything else, so that's what get him into trouble. If there is anything that isn't baby-proofed, he will go right for it. Some things I didn't even realize could be a hazard, but find out they are when he gets to it, and THAT is what is scary to me. He's alot smarter and sneakier and more crafty than you would think he is!

I agree you are good about giving him attention, and I know what you mean. Sometimes they become extremely curious about the very things we don't want them to touch for their own safety (and that never seems to end :). That makes them seem "sneaky", but I don't think it is an intentional being "bad", just so curious, and very smart, smart enough to wait until you turn your back for one second. And they get frustrated when you won't let them explore some of the things that they are curious about, which is why you have to hide it or block it best you can, and watch them all the time, and try to remember they are doing exactly what they are suppose to do, trying to learn all they can about everything they can get their hands on and not wise enough to stay away from dangerous stuff. Parenthood is very challenging in so many ways.
