You also can't leave tomorrow because it will put a dent in my September vacation. Throwing the cocktail party while I'm on vacation might be a good idea...
We will give some of the recipes a test-run! (It's so old it doesn't even contain my favorite, the classic Grape Nehi.) Then when you and Jennie take the train into the city to visit we'll throw a fabulous cocktail party and wear fancy hats. I'll start stocking up on fancy hats.
That is awesome! I have a few vintage cocktail books as part of my vintage barware collection and I have gotten some great recipes and ideas from them! Some of the mixers are nearly impossible to find anymore, but thanks to the internets, I have been able to figure out how to make or procure them
( ... )
When I was a kid our house was always full of my parents' friends, and there was always alcohol around. It just seemed like the thing adults did when they got together. My grandparents' house was the same, only they didn't let in anyone who wasn't family. (My grandfather was a little anti-social.)
You know cocktail hour(s) is alive and well at my house. I enjoy a glass of wine with dinner; nothing wrong with that. Other than the calories, granted. But drinking in the city can get expensive, so I figure occasional cocktail parties would be a fun way to entertain without having to go out. I'll have to save up to stock my bar, though, especially if I take Mr. Mario's advice.
I can't tell you how much more pleasant my work day has been since I made the decision to leave and put a deadline on it. It's amazing what having a concrete plan can do for your outlook, it really is.***
I'm feeling lighter than I have in ages, which is how I know this is the right decision for me.
OMG, THIS. I was feeling the same thing back in February after I got the new job. It made it so much easier to slog through every day. I'm glad that you're feeling the same. :)
I'm sure there is some psychological explanation for it, but mostly I'm just grateful not to feel so trapped anymore. (Until I think about how far away my next move still is, but let's not focus on that.)
Hee! Wonderful book...and how did it make it past the church ladies?? Awesome.
Did I send you my recipe for a Grape Nehi? I can't remember. I will if I didn't.
I'm so glad that you're feeling better. I could tell that you were depressed. It's a big move, one that brings with it a lot of exciting change! I can't wait to hear all the details as your plans come about!
(When you have the greasy, bad for you appetizer party? Can I come? It totally sounds like something I'd enjoy way more than I should! Of course, the cocktails sound good, too! I feel like I should stock more booze than the kinds I put in cake!)
Yes, you have shared your Grape Nehi recipe. Sometimes I like to put some frozen berries in mine, just for fun. Purists would disapprove, but that's their problem. I had one with lemongrass once in a bar downtown; it was delicious. I drank too many and my tab was ridiculous. As was my behavior, I'm sure, though I hardly remember. Vodka makes me black out.
Just remember to wear a fancy hat to the appetizer party! It's going to be fabulous.
I didn't hallucinate it, then. Good. I worry about me sometimes.
I'm still looking for a better one. This one isn't quite as good as I'd like. It's a recipe surprisingly hard to find.
I have some very fancy hats from my "vintage" days. I dressed like Audrey Hepburn all the time. Unfortunately my pregnancies ruined my hips for my dresses. But I still have the hats!
