I am sitting at my desk, listening to The Intimate Ella Fitzgerald, which always puts me in mind of autumn weather and the coming of winter, wearing a sweater because they have the A/C cranked too high today, and drinking apple cinnamon tea. Intellectually I know it's going to be 95 degrees and disgusting when I walk out the front door in an hour ( Read more... )

Never. We go straight from miserable heat to dead of winter.

That is disappointing. I'm glad we settled on September for a visit. I would hate to waste lovely October weather ;)

Dontcha love Ella? She was great. There are some Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington songs I like, but Ella was classical.

I do. She makes me kind of melancholy, but I suppose that's the point.

Oh, Ella. So perfect.

Autumn is my favorite time of year, hands down. The changing leaves, the perfect temperature, it is just is the best time.

Tonight I grilled zucchini and cherry tomatoes that I got from a mom at church along with yellow peppers and red onion I got at the farmer's market. I served it over pasta with fresh garlic, olive oil, and spinach. It was divine; and the first time I've cooked since my surgery. It was the best of summer on a plate. I need to get new basil ::frown:: my lovely plant died this week since no one bothers to water it but me and while I was incapacited it died a horrible, painful death.

I long for Fall. Not just because of cooler weather, tho I'd really like that, but because of the food. I know, I know. I think in food. I can't help it! But I want stews and braises and long, slow roasts bad enough to actually taste them! (Of course, 3 months in I'll be dreaming of pulled pork and carne asada! There's truly no satisfying me!)

While I know that Ella Fitzgerald was a genius...hands down, a genius...she makes me so sad! I can't do that to myself. It's like listening to Johnny Cash! I like my wrists the way they are, thanks.

I do confess to having awful taste in music, tho. ::shrugs:: I suppose it goes with my lack of love of dark chocolate???
