There's also a job open at Bryn Mawr for which I am really qualified. But do I want to work in the suburbs? I could always live in Philly and commute. Best of both worlds

Not personally but yea... My mom has had a hell of time due to her medical needs and bad luck. And a friend who worked for Pratt & Whitney just got laid off himself.
I think you should apply to it anyway. You never know until you try! (Of course, it's a lot easier to encourage someone else - I gave myself a psychosomatic illness just to avoid going to my sister-in-law's baby shower.)
Probably easier commuting out of the city each morning rather than into it. And, it's at least closer to what you'd be comfortable with...and out of the South. Good things all around.
I will keep finger (and toes ::ouch::) crossed for you should you decide to apply.
Bryn Mawr is pretty progressive, so I could feel good about working there. I'm expanding my search from the greater NYC area, but not any further south than Philly.
I have a feeling that after working in the South almost anywhere would feel pretty progressive by comparison.
I will be wishing for your successful job search, my dear. You deserve happiness...and I will help you in the only way that I can. I will wish (and pray) for it.
It looks pretty easy. I will probably throw my hat in the ring (and if they interview me I'll be asking for tons of advice on where to live, so brace yourself!)
