Info on Boston North towns?

Aug 06, 2008 18:17

We're looking to move a bit north of the city within the next year and I'd like to get feedback/opinions on some of the places I'm considering.
-Lynnfield
-Melrose
-Middleton
-North Reading
-Reading
-Stoneham
-Wakefield

Or if you think you have a better idea, just let me know!

We lived in Stoneham, but right on the Melrose border off of Lynn Fells Parkway/Fellsway East, for almost 5 years. I liked it a lot there. Jason's commute to Watertown wasn't great, but I didn't have too much trouble getting into the city... sometimes I drove in via Rte 28, sometimes I drove to Wellington and took the Orange line. It's also very easy to get up to Route 1.

And did I mention our condo is currently for sale? LOL, sorry, just had to get that plug in there.

Melrose has a cute downtown with some very yummy restaurants. Stoneham has more of a strip, but it's handy to have one of those anyway. I might be able to tell you more about the other towns if I knew what you were looking for or looking to avoid (condo vs house? towny vs suburban vs rural? etc).

Definitely a house, must have a yard and feel right for a family (we're starting down the baby-making route!). Basically, I'd like a small town feel, rather than suburban or industrial.

Cool! Well Melrose and Wakefield both have nice downtowns. The parts of Stoneham bordering Melrose could work well for you too. But there are some good spots in all those towns, so I think you'll have to commit yourself to exploring! Good luck to you guys!

If Lowell is an option, my girlfriend is looking to sell her completely newly redone 3 BR condo with covered parking for a really good deal. :)
