Night Walks

Aug 16, 2005 04:14

Dad had one of his bad nights tonight. Mom called and talked to me for a while, then wanted to talk to him. I didn't want to let her, knowing that it was just going to be another big fight, but what was I supposed to do? I asked her if she'd please not do this tonight, but she did anyways. I was right, it was a fight, and Dad started drinking, and ( Read more... )

I decided to take my car out tonight. There's something I like about cruising the streets late when no one's really out. Well, I also like to speed. The police department in this town isn't exactly the greatest. They seem to like to stay inside and drink their coffee more than watch the streets at night, so lucky for me.

I'm slowing down when I get out of town into the developments near my parent's house. Don't exactly plan on dropping by now, wouldn't want to bother them this late. But something catches my eye walking a little further down. I drive that direction, stopping by the figure. Rolling down my window, I find that it's Cassie, one of the girls from orientation. "Having fun?" I ask with a smirk.

I look over, blinking. It takes me a second to recognize the boy behind the wheel, though when I do I smile. "Hi...um....Wyatt, right?" I ask. I think it's Wyatt. I remember an old west name. That's about the epitome of old west names unless he was named Doc Holiday and I doubt that. I stop walking and take a few steps towards the car.

"Yeah, that's me. What're you doing out by yourself? Not that I'm trying to sound parental or anything, but just curious." I smile back, unclicking my seat belt. Yes, I drive fast, but you can't forget the seatbelt.

"I just needed to get out of the house for a while." I say with a little smile. "What about you?" I ask.

I watch him out of the corner of my eye carefully. "You hear correctly." I say, voice a little softer as seriousness settles over me. "You really shouldn't be out by yourself either. There's a lot of...strange things in town."

She's concerned about me? That's kinda nice, I guess. I smile reasurringly at her serious tone. "Hey, I'll be okay. And if anything decides to mysteriously attack me? I've got the getaway car. I drive pretty fast, gotten way beyond my fair share of speeding tickets during the day when the cops actually do their job."

I smile, though it's fainter than the ones previously. "Well...just be careful." I repeat. "Not everything that's scary in this town are things you can outrun in a car." I wonder if he's going to think I'm a crazy art student, a flakey girl with too big an imagination. I guess I'd rather that than have him be put in danger.

I wonder if big giant demon snakes are speedy. Imagining one of them slithering around in the basement just creeps me out. "You know a lot about scary things in Sunnydale?" I ask, sort of half kidding but not. She sounds like she's seen more than me, and that's even creepier. More things besides the infamous Machida. Great.

"I suppose not." I agree. "Free rides when I'm out alone. Hmm." I say, smirking. "Sounds alright, though I may at a later date ask for something slightly more substancial." I say slyly, watching him.

I raise an eyebrow at that. "Oh? Substancial? As in?" I'm trying to keep my eyes on the road, really, but at that I have to turn and look right in her direction.

I keep my smile on my face. "Just once, I'll ask you to do something, and you'll have to follow my instructions to the letter--no questions asked." I say.

I quickly glance back to the street before turning back towards her, an eyebrow still raised curiously. "That doesn't seem so hard. Unless you ask me to offer myself to a monster or something. Which I really hope you wouldn't do."
